Way Laing Gipangandoy

• January 8th, 2009

A year ago I heard a Cantonese song performed by a Rock band named BEYOND and it was really very good. Although, I did not have any idea what the song was all about, I could sense by the sound of it that it was a love song. So, I studied its tune and found the chords of the song. Then, I wrote my own lyrics in Visayan (note: this is not a translation of the original song). This became the song "Way Laing Gipangandoy" (I desire no one else but you), which is obviously a love song. I am not embarrassed to tell you that this version is very very far from BEYOND's. However, I did my best.

Pinalangga

• January 8th, 2009

Feeling overwhelmed by my "success" in writing "Way Laing Gipangandoy," I made another "ballad." This time both the music and lyrics are mine. "Pinalangga" is a Visayan word for "Sweetheart." However, I think "pinalangga" carries more meaning than the latter. It is very endearing that if you use this to call the person you love, it will make him/her feel that he/she is really loved.

Tara-ta-tang-tang

• January 8th, 2009

"Tara-ta-tang-tang" has no meaning. It's just a sound one may create when he/she hums a tune. I put it here because it rhymes with the word "tang-tang" (to remove or detach) which is also found in the song. This is filled with a wishful thought that he (the lover) and the "object" of his love will not be "detached" from each other. He also expresses his hopes that the love they have found and shared together will not go away from them.

Aninipot

• January 8th, 2009

A song dedicated to my friend and #1 fan in the US (hehehe), Inday Nippy. "Aninipot" or "The Firefly" is a song that tells how this nocturnal beetle can actually give us joy. The brightness of the light this insect gives is a great pleasure especially among children. When I was a boy, I really loved to watch many "Aninipot," as they flew and danced in the darkness of the night in the barrio. Somehow, they symbolize hope. Inday Nippy, as I knew her since we met in Kalubihan many months ago, is like this Aninipot. Her friendliness and liveliness bring joy and hope especially to us as Bisdak and Bisyaw. She is an avid supporter of the now famous "Radyo Bisdak" and me as Bay Uray. Actually, she never stopped in encouraging me to compose more Bisdak songs.

Pauli Na

• January 8th, 2009
This is a song about longing. "Pauli Na" or "Please Come Back" is a pleading of someone for his beloved to return to him. He still believes that this woman still loves him deeply. So, there is no reason why she should keep herself away from him. A suitable song this Valentines Day...

Tinunoan

• January 8th, 2009

"Tinunoan" is a name of any food in Visayas and Mindanao, Philippines, with a soup made from coconut milk. This is a song about a Filipino (particularly a Visayan), who, because he is abroad, longs to eat his favorite food "Tinunoan."

Ako Adunahan

• January 8th, 2009

"Ako Adunahan" which means "I am rich" is a Visayan song about one's desire to become rich. He (in the Chorus) however realizes that being rich is not easy. Although, he can have the food that he likes to eat (as described in the first stanza of the song), marry the woman he loves (second stanza), and travel to places he wants to go (third stanza), being rich also means that he can be attached strongly to material things. And obviously, being attached to material things have many serious implications.
